Together We Stand

“Thanks to Valor First Foundation, I finally feel like I have my life back. After years of battling PTSD, they gave me the support and community I desperately needed. I’m no longer fighting alone."

— James R., U.S. Army Veteran

Who We Are

The Valor First Foundation was founded by Douglas Pennington, a man whose life was forever shaped by the sacrifices of his parents. Both proudly served in the U.S. military, but like so many others, they returned home carrying invisible wounds. The weight of PTSD slowly consumed their lives, and despite their strength and resilience, the battle they faced after service was one they could not win. Douglas lost both of his parents to the effects of PTSD, a tragedy that left him not only heartbroken but determined to find meaning in their loss.

Growing up, Douglas saw firsthand how trauma lingers long after the uniform is folded away. He remembers nights when silence filled the home, broken only by the weight of unspoken pain. He witnessed the toll depression, isolation, and addiction can take on veterans who feel forgotten by the world they once defended. Those experiences shaped him, planting a fire in his heart to make sure no other veteran or family would feel that kind of despair alone.

From that pain grew a vision—not just to build an organization, but to build a refuge. Valor First is more than a foundation; it is Douglas’ promise to every veteran that their sacrifice will never be overlooked. It is a place where stories are heard, where healing is possible, and where community becomes a source of strength.

Today, the Valor First Foundation stands as a beacon of hope for veterans struggling with housing, addiction, and PTSD. Through outreach, recovery programs, and long-term support, we walk beside those who served, reminding them that their battles matter and their lives are worth fighting for.

Our work is built on compassion, community, and the belief that even in the darkest moments, there is light when people come together. Valor First exists because every veteran deserves not only gratitude, but the chance to heal, rebuild, and thrive.

Our Mission

At Valor First Foundation, our mission is to stand beside veterans as they face the challenges of life after service. Too many heroes return home only to fight new battles—PTSD, addiction, and the struggle to find safe and stable housing. We are here to ensure they never face those battles alone.

Through housing assistance, recovery programs, and community outreach, we provide the resources and compassion veterans need to rebuild their lives. Every effort we make is driven by the belief that their service deserves more than gratitude—it deserves action, care, and a lasting promise of support.
